Thembela Madliki

Thembela Madliki is theatre-maker, live performance educator, and newly trained Intimacy Coordinator/Intimacy Director.


In 2016, Thembela's production Nyanga won Best Student Production at the National Arts Festival. In addition, the play received a nomination for Best New Script, and Thembela Madliki received the award for Most Promising Student Director. In 2017, Thembela's Master of Arts research project Bayephi debuted on the National Arts Festival Fringe programme and was awarded a Standard Bank Silver Ovation Award. The production was later performed at the 2017 Cape Town Fringe Festival. In addition in 2018, Thembela was awarded the Theatre Arts Emerging Directors Bursary. The bursary gave her the opportunity to create Where She Walked which also toured to the National Arts Festival.

In recent years Thembela worked as a Stage and Screen Acting lecturer at AFDA Cape Town where she directed several student performances.
